A
word on the Réunion des Musées Nationaux. This
institution was founded in 1895 to raise and administer
the funds required for the acquisition of works of
art by national collections. Today, the RMN collaborates
with thirty three institutions of varying sizes. Its
affiliated bodies include large institutions such
as the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay and the château de
Versailles; side by side with small museums such as
the Musée Gustave Moreau in Paris or the Musée Magnin
in Dijon; as well as intermediate sized establishments
such as the Musée Picasso in Paris, the Musée de la
Renaissance at the château d’Ecouen, or the Musée
Message Biblique Marc Chagall in Nice. Of these thirty
three national museums, twenty one are located in
Paris or the surrounding area.
